Mycosis - Fungal skin infection/ atheletes foot.

Infection is often picked up at communal areas eg swimming pools or gym/showers. It can also spread within the household among those who share the same shower.

Fungus is an opportunistic infection that loves moist, and hot environments so its important to keep the feet dry during the treatment process.

The number one problem with treating skin infections is stopping treatment prematurely once the skin improves in appearance. Fungi form spores that are symptom free and dormant structures that can linger longer than active fungi

Thus its important to continue treatment for at least 2 weeks after the symptoms reside to ensure complete eradication.

Treatment

  • salty warm water soaks for 10 minutes

  • tea tree powder to reduce sweat

  • bamboo socks

  • anti-fungal ointment or spray - once daily or twice daily versions available. - important to follow instructions to full completion to avoid fungal resistance.

  • antifungal detergent to wash socks and shows while treating the infection.

  • heat can help kill off residual fungus inside footwear
